Breaking Barriers:
Life Coaching with Heart

As life coaching continues to gain popularity, there is a growing understanding of the importance of incorporating social justice principles into personal growth. To address the lack of "disruptive design" or status quo challenging modalities, I have developed an innovative methodology that combines academic counseling methods with principles of centering human rights to create a transformative and socially conscious coaching experience for my clients and the communities they engage with.

This method integrates my personal core principles to empower individuals to live authentic and purposeful lives while acknowledging and addressing systemic barriers.

Foundation 1: Awareness of Self, Others, and Context: Cultivating a Nuanced Worldview while Nurturing Emotional Exploration

  • Modified cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based coaching approaches encourage self-awareness, empathy, and contextual understanding, providing clients with a more profound approach to overcoming obstacles and achieving personal goals. Paired with positive psychology, I support creating supportive and non-judgmental relationships and environments. This allows clients to delve into their emotions and experiences with the security of knowing they will be accepted and celebrated.

Foundation 5) Abolition and Decolonization:

I use modified versions of cognitive-behavioral and narrative coaching to assist clients in acknowledging and accepting their lived experiences. We follow up using "disruptive design"-based reframing to dismantle oppressive thought patterns. This supports clients in reclaiming their narratives.

In conclusion, this innovative and integrative life coaching framework provides an academically grounded approach to personal development. By integrating core principles of human rights with various counseling modalities, this methodology aims to facilitate transformative personal growth and self-discovery while actively addressing systemic barriers and fostering social consciousness. Ultimately, through a holistic, personable, and socially conscientious coaching experience, this methodology aims to facilitate transformative personal growth and self-discovery while actively addressing systemic barriers and fostering social consciousness.

Foundation 4: Intersectional Liberation: Celebrating the Power of Diverse Identities

  • Drawing from solution-focused coaching and positive psychology, this blend of approaches addresses the unique challenges faced by individuals based on their intersecting identities and emphasizes the importance of leveraging existing strengths and resources to achieve meaningful personal growth. Part of that is through celebrating an individual's perseverance and resilience through hard times and understanding some of the contexts and adjacent skills that surround conditioned skills like resilience.

Foundation 3: Mutual Aid and Collaboration: Co-creating Success

  • In my work, I highlight that we are social creatures in a complex world. With the collaborative nature of life coaching, I encourage clients to work with existing relationships and sometimes cultivate a new network in their lives that can be drawn on during resolution-focused times.

Foundation 2: Compassion, Empathy/Sympathy, and Honoring Lived Experiences

I seek to nurture emotional exploration through positive psychology and mindfulness-based coaching to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment, This is paired with strong ethics and integrity- which encourage trust and transparency. This allows clients to get comfy and delve into their emotions and experiences with security.

This methodology upholds respect, honesty, and professionalism, ensuring trust and credibility in the coaching relationship.
